Darwin lights up the Leno stadium

The initial situation involved a lighting system based on floodlights fitted with 2,000 W metal halide lamps, for which a refurbishment project had been planned.

The existing system had several luminaires that were no longer functioning, as well as issues relating to the availability of discharge lamps. The relamping project made it possible to renew the pitch lighting with a more efficient LED solution designed to reduce maintenance requirements.

The solution

For the new system, 33 Palazzoli DARWIN floodlights were installed, selected in three different configurations to meet the specific lighting requirements of the pitch.

The design was developed in accordance with UNI EN 12193 for the lighting of sports facilities, with the aim of ensuring an average illuminance of 300 lux and a uniformity of over 60 per cent.

Efficiency, performance and durability

The refurbishment has resulted in energy savings of around 40% compared with the previous system.

This increased efficiency is complemented by the solution’s durability, with a declared L90 B10 service life of 110,000 hours at 40 °C and a 7-year warranty, helping to reduce maintenance requirements over time.
